Education
Education brings understanding. Community can move
forward by maintaining openness to deeper and different levels of understanding.
Education removes ignorance and its consequences, namely fear, prejudice
and stagnation.
Education brings lasting change. When a new aspect of understanding
enters the human intellect it is like a renaissance of consciousness:
the birth of a new vision that widens humanity's horizons of reasoning,
of empathy, and ultimately, of being.
An educational system functions for the development of the individual
and the community when it is flexible and far-sighted enough to accommodate
and encourage such newness and renewal. True education opens the human
intellect to enquiry and brings about personal development by working on four levels:
We need all four levels for a true education, that is, one that achieves
a full development of the human personality. We must not limit ourselves
to just listening and understanding; we must also learn to do and be.
It is by putting into practice that one becomes. Then values such as peace,
freedom, respect and tolerance are the person and through that personal
empowerment there is genuine and positive upliftment of others.
When we attain wisdom we master the art of knowing how to live qualitatively
and will have realised that before the individual or community can hope to move
forward, they must first move inwards, that is reconnect with their innate
spiritual values and conscience.
Information, knowledge and wisdom can all lead to social progress but the
final goal of education is to arrive at the truth and the first truth is
the truth of our innate spirituality and worth. We must find this, make
it part of us and then be it in the community.
