Monument to commemorate
The Million Minutes of Peace Appeal

"When the General Assembly solemnly proclaimed 1986 to be the International Year of Peace and they called upon all peoples to join with the United Nations in resolute efforts to safeguard peace and the future of humanity on October 24, 1995 (Resolution 40/3) the Special Mobile Force (SMF) did not remain untouched t the appeal as it has a Hearts and Minds Campaign to foster peace and liberty and to uphold democratic values.

It had a chance through “The Million Minutes of Peace Appeal” launched by the national committee to contribute in a significant and material way through the erection of a symbolical monument to commemorate the Million Minutes of Peace Appeal on October 16, 1986. Thus a monument was conceived representing the seventh steps leading to heaven and on top of a globe superimposed by a dove representing the world under th ascendancy of peace. The monument was erected in Gymkhana, Vacoas at the apex of the site known as the Triangle of Peace by members of the Engineer Squadron of the SMF in the record time of two weeks."
